Poly-L-Lactic Acid (PLLA), is a substance which has been used for over 30 years as medical material for tissue regeneration, suture and surgical sealant and more recently was FDA approved in 2009 as an injectable facial rejuvenation treatment to stimulate. This new generation polymer is extracted from Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) which is known for its absorbability and biodegradability properties.

Now available in a thread form, practitioners can directly address the structure of the face for an immediate lifting effect, accompanied by a longer-term regeneration of collagen and natural volume. Biodegradation of PLLA occurs through a process of hydrolysis over a time period of between six to eight months while the aesthetic duration of threading results has been found to last between 18-24 months.
