Active ingredients and action mechanism
Citric acid
+ It acts by competing with sulphates and phosphotransferases, decreasing the availability of the sulphate and phosphate groups that form part of the ionic bonds of comeocytes.
Lactic acid
+ It causes desmosome splitting between corneocytes and encourages desquamation and melanin dispersion.
+ It increases collagen and glycosaminoglycan synthesis, and inhibits thyrosinase.
Salicylic acid + It decreases the thickness of the stratum corneum by breaking the keratinocyte membrane.
